Oyasumi Morning

I should be blogging more . . .

Happy Birthday to . . .

ME!!!!

Yesterday was my birthday and I had to work. Too bad most of the country was stuck on a plane/in an airport/on a bus/in traffic to come to my poor shop. So I guess you can say I spent a nice quiet day, mostly alone.

This holiday was more hassle than I need in my life. I made an awesome dinner with the Greatest of All Time Turkey, homemade cranberry sauce, amped- up box stuffing and a cake! I spent more time with mother than I ever have before but now I realize why I don’t spend to much time with her. And my lovely nephew has officially joined the Disappointing Christmas/Birthday Club. He won’t feel the effects just yet but soon.

So for the coming year ahead, I have decided to make this the year to make it. Make it out of debt. Make it to a new job! Make it with someone special. You know, make it to the big time.

Well I wish the few people who glance a my tiny square of internet Happy Winter and Happy New Year.

In Love with Yakuza in Love

First of all, I know I don’t have a lot of readers and that’s mostly my fault. So I’m sorry lowly Blog for neglecting you since July. As much as I promise never to do it again, blogging is definitely not how it used to be.

Recently,  I’ve been on this kick of torrenting and watching all of the yaoi I can get my hands on and I noticed something: I love yakuza! Especially when they are loving on guys. It’s like comic gold! It’s even funnier than salaryman yaoi!

From what I have seen of the yakuza in movies, other than the whole pinky severing thing, they are very mysterious and very badass. With strong values like honor, loyalty and respect, it was to believe that these were the bad guys.

As I’ve grown in my fangirl-ness and notice that I love really weird pairings (really weird like Left Hand x Hunter D weird), the yakuza are certainly unexpected in an area where pretty school boys rule.

Now, this far in the yaoi game, there are even types like the Jaded Underboss and the Pretty Boss’s Son and the Clumsy New Recruit and the Psycho Playboy, even those Crazy Pervy VIPs (things get very funny when there are Pervy VIPs having a get-together)!

Okay, I’ll admit that these stories can be very serious (because yakuza are very serious about selling someone’s little sister into prostitution) but I think the best one are the lighter ones. Because nothing says yaoi  like hard ass, sometimes scarred, maybe tattooed yakuza indulging in hot and happy man sex.

Now here a few of my favorites!

Kizuna by Kodaku Kazuma

This is not really yakuza yaoi. There are a lot of yakuza in it though. The main story is about Ranmaru and Enjouji, have been in love since high school. Enjouji’s step brother, Kai is the Pretty Boss’s Son and Masa is the Jaded Underboss assigned to protect him. Masa and Kai’s relationship is fraught with misunderstaing and things left unsaid. I really haven’t read far but it is very charming.

Yakuza In Love by Kano Shiuko

Aoi is a Clumsy New Recruit who is promoted fast within the ranks of the Flower Group for saving the Don’s life. Having a really nasty scar you got in a car accident doesn’t hurt either. Jaded Underboss Sakiya just got out of prison, still moaning the death of his woman. This one of those stories where alochol makes everything right. Add a Psycho New Recruit and a Playboy and you have a complete set. It even has a mention of Pervy VIPs.

Okane Ga Nai by Shinozaki Hitoyo and Kousaka Tohru

Ayase is a Pretty Student who gets sold out by his cousin to Pervy VIPs. He is saved by Kanou, a Jaded Loan Shark with intimacy issues. From the OVA I’ve seen there is a lot of rape. There also twins and a trans-Mamasan.

Ikoku Irokoi Romantan by Yamane Ayano

Ranmaru, a Pretty Boss’s Son and his fiancee are on a cruise on the Mediterranean for their wedding. Too bad they don’t like each other. Luckily, the ship’s  captain is a Sexy Smooth Japanophile who admires Ramaru for the manly way his kimono. Wherever there are yakuza there is almost always a chance of Pervy VIPs.

Noodle Shop Affair by CJ Michalski

Ukyou, a Playboy Boss’s Son, falls for the cute shota ramen shop owner Kakeru. But Kakeru is being harassed a rival gang. Now Kakeru hates all yakuza. So Ukyou has to play homeless to get close to Kakeru. But whenever there is trouble in the ramen shop Ukyou becomes Mr. Mob Boss to clean up! Too bad Kakeru doesn’t recognize Ukyou in the sunglasses.

I’m  sure there are other stories that are just as funny as these. And don’t forget the school delinquent and loan shark stuff!

Secret Ingredient Banana Bread

Lately I have been on a baking fix. So I’m going to share my latest creation: Banana Bread. I came about when I saw the recipe I had bananas but the original recipe called for applesauce. I didn’t have applesauce so I replaced it with sweet potato puree. It turned out great if you use large very ripe bananas.  It’s healthier because the added benefits of sweet potatoes without the added sugar from the applesauce. Adapted from Ladies’ Home Journal, October 2008.

  • Oil Spray or Butter, for pan
  • 2  cup all-purpose flour, plus more for pan
  • 1  tsp baking soda
  • 1/2  tsp baking powder
  • 1/2  tsp salt
  • 3/4  cup sugar
  • 1/2  cup sweet potato puree
  • 2  tbsp butter, melted
  • 1  tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2  large eggs, beaten
  • 1-1/2  cups mashed ripe bananas (about 3)

Directions

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 9-by-5-inch loaf pan; set aside.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. In another bowl whisk together sugar, puree, butter and vanilla extract. Whisk in eggs until combined. Using a large spoon, stir in banana. Gradually stir in flour mixture until just combined. Evenly pour batter into prepared pan.

3. Bake until a toothpick inserted in center comes out almost clean, 50 min to 1 hr. Transfer bread in pan to a wire rack and let cool 5 min. Run a knife around edges of bread to loosen from pan. Invert onto rack and turn bread topside up. Let stand until cooled completely. Makes 12 servings.

Lately, I told myself that I’m on a diet. So I have been making my own yogurt. It’s pretty easy and it’s cheap, too.

Sweets and Shoes

I really should try to post at least one post a week. Without the Internet at home and not being at home all the time, it’s hard to post anymore than that.

Recently, a coworker “passed away.” I really don’t know what happened to her; I haven’t all the details. I only meet her twice since Working at the National Harbor Store. She seems like a nice enough girl. I’m sure she thought  of me as some newbie from some god forsaken store.  in other words I don’t know much about her. I think she like to play basketball and her’s cool with her mom. she seems pretty confident in her job even though she never officially trained her (at least that’s what I overheard). “Sweets to the Sweet,” Serina. You will be missed. Sorry about that. I finally got the info straight. Serina’s father passed away. My sincerest apologies and condolences.

Now something happen to day that never ever happened before in my life. I want a pair of shoes that are almost $300! Usually, I never pay more that $100 out of principle. I know to many people who do and I have heard of many people who got hurt because of their shoes. But these are actually pretty cool. MBT makes them. The round sole is suppose to help you burn calories and improve pressure on you joints. And I REALLY want them. Just how much? I want a Wii but they cost about the same price . . .
